Made By Things is a creative studio. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit this site, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We have kept it short and in plain language on purpose.

What we collect

You give us information directly when you fill in a form on this site — the project questionnaire, the contact form, a careers enquiry, or the Field Notes signup. Depending on the form, that means your name, your email address, your organization, and whatever you choose to tell us about your project.

We also collect a small amount of information automatically: the pages you visit, the site that referred you, your browser and device type, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. This is ordinary web server and analytics data.

How we use it

To reply to your enquiry and talk with you about a possible project. To send you Field Notes if you asked for it. To understand which pages people find useful so we can improve them. To keep the site working and secure.

We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for advertising.

Cookies

This site uses cookies to function and to measure traffic. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, though some things may be less convenient.

Who else sees it

We use a small number of service providers who handle data on our behalf: our website host, which also receives form submissions; our email provider, which delivers Field Notes; and our analytics provider. They may only use that information to provide their service to us.

We may also disclose information where the law requires it.

How long we keep it

Enquiries and project correspondence are kept while we have a working relationship with you and for a reasonable period afterwards. Field Notes subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Analytics data is retained in aggregate.

Your choices

You can unsubscribe from Field Notes using the link at the bottom of any issue. You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@madebythings.com and we will respond.

Depending on where you live you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA. We handle those requests the same way wherever you are.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Anything material will be called out here.
